Morgan silver dollar coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904 and reissued for one more year in 1921. Named after the coins designer, George T. Morgan and very popular with todays coin collectors and coin investors, the Morgan dollar weighs in at 26.73 grams and contains a total silver content of 0.77344 troy ounces of pure silver.

Rare Key Dates for the Morgan Silver Dollar

Three of the most valuable silver dollar coins minted during the entire production years for the Morgan dollar series are the 1889-CC dollar coin minted in Carson city with the total number of coins minted at 350,000, the 1893-S dollar coin minted in San Fransisco with only 100,000 coins minted and the rarest of all of the Morgan silver dollars ever produced, the 1895 Morgan dollar proof coin.

Although U.S. Mint records indicate a mintage of 12,000 coins for the 1895 Morgan dollar, experts believe that only 880 Proofs were made in 1895.
