The $10 Indian Head Eagle gold coins were designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens also the designer of the U.S. $20 Saint-Gaudens double eagle coins.
The Indian Head featured on the obverse of this beautiful gold coin is really a depiction of Miss Libberty adorned in a feathered Native American headdress.
The reverse side of the coin features an eagle perched on a bundle of arrows. The unusual edge of the coin features 46 raised stars to represent the 46 states at the time the coin was designed. Two more stars were added to the coins edge after 1912 when Arizona and New Mexico became states.
These coins contain .48375 ounces of pure gold and were minted intermittently during the years 1907 to 1933. Low mintages make these ten dollar gold coins very popular with gold coin collectors.
